mix: "lmao fuckin posers"

no "what I'm listening to" because who said I had to be consistent? NO ONE, THAT'S WHO. THIS IS MY BLOG AND THERE ARE NO RULES HERE

so here is a mix that was made with like, three parts seriousness, one parts jest, and entirely out of love. jaded punk is a shitty column run by Dan Ozzi (don't got time for pretend feminist men, or just men, really) but being a jaded punk is literally every day of my life, so here's a stupid mix.

again, it's made with love more than anything else. I think the fact that punk is like a game in who can be "MORE PUNK" is absolutely hilarious. (although I really, really believe that people can do punk wrong – i.e. being sexist/racist/cissexist/homophobic/classist.)

☹ QUEER ANGST ☹

Listen: it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a queer teenager in possession of a good music library must suffer Moste Extreme Angste. This is true of me, true for my friends – it is a Law of the Universe.

Somewhat recently Mary Lambert recorded a cover of "Teenage Dirtbag" explaining that she'd always thought it was a queer love song. There are a great deal of songs like that out there ("Sugar We're Goin' Down", for example: I'm watching you two from the closet, wishing to be the friction in your jeans OKAY PETE WENTZ, OKAY.)

So this was (a portion) of my Queer Angste Playlist – with some actual queer artists plus Speedy Ortiz, which wasn't a band  that was on my radar when I was in high school but "No Below" is so a queer anthem.

what i've been listening to this week

  • the new Pixies single is actually super good. "Greens and Blues" is just the reminder of summer I needed (not really - it's fucking cold and thinking of summer is a bummer, kind of). the song has serious mermaid/merman concepts and the video is just as trippy as you expected a Pixies video would be
  • riot grrrl-inspired pop punk band, Potty Mouth has a new interview in New York Magazine which features their video for "Black and Studs". they're a) a really fucking good band and I'm all about girls in pop punk (especially girls who are conscious of their place in the scene) and b) "Black and Studs" is really interesting to me because of the chorus' what happened to you to make you wear black and studs? there's something there about certain things having to have happened to make people punk, which I'll probably unpack later.
  • as Warped Tour announcements continue to come out, I'm getting increasingly excited to see The Story So Far live. I've spent the last day and a half listening to pretty strictly their albums Under Soil and Dirt and What You Don't See.
  • Modern Baseball has a new album out too. it's pretty good.
what have y'all be filling your ear holes with this week?

hello my name is...

after years and years of starting blogs, abandoning blogs, coming up with cool ideas for blogs/zines, I'm deciding the best way to go about this thing would be to blog about something I 1) always wanted to blog about and 2) can always talk about anyway: MUSIC.

so I figured the best way to bite the bullet and start posting would be to share a "getting to know me" mix. I started by searching the 'fanmix yourself memes' I see all over tumblr - but the problem was that half of them sucked. so here's an amended version of this one. we're starting at number four and skipping number eleven.

listen @ 8tracks.

songs that would also be acceptable for any future movie adaptions of my life story: "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" by My Chemical Romance, but I didn't want to repeat artists, okay. (also this is always gonna be a Warped Tour '04/'05 defense blog)

alright, cool. post one is done.
